Accident scenes

Article Abstract:

A nine-month study at a teaching hospital in Chicago, IL, revealed the medical staff made mistakes in the treatment of 480 of 1,047 patients. The error rate of approximately 45% greatly exceeded the rate of about 4% reported in a 1984 Harvard University study of 30,000 patients at New York hospitals. At the Chicago hospital, the main problem is how separate departments interact, says Lori Andrews, the lead researcher and a Chicago-Kent College of Law professor.

Article Abstract:

Foundations that are created by the sale of not-for-profit hospitals must provide the highest amount of health benefits for those individuals that need the most help. Federal laws require the funds from these sales to be used for charity while most state laws require the funds from these sales remain allied with the nonprofit hospital's original mission statement.
