Article Abstract:

John Wennberg has published the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care, a study of health care markets across the US. Medicare data was divided into 306 geographic markets, and the resulting data showcases an amazing variety in the level, cost and quality of health care. The controversial study concludes that cost cutting does not necessarily hurt quality and that increased outpatient spending does not reduce inpatient spending.
