Optimizing ischemic stroke outcomes: an interdisciplinary approach to poststroke rehabilitation in acute care

Article Abstract:

Ischemic stroke patients require comprehensive, prompt rehabilitation to avoid major disability. Many people may not consider stroke a medical emergency and delay urgent treatment. Hypertension largely contributes to the risk of stroke, a costly condition for both patient and family. Drug research focuses on ways to repair neuronal injury at the earliest. Antithrombotic drugs, such as heparin and warfarin, are controversial but fairly common in the management of stroke.
