Putting last wishes first

Article Abstract:

Hospice of Northern Virginia, Falls Church, regional VP Betsy Murphy has created a palliative care team whose mission is to support patients, patients' families, doctors, and hospitals. The team, which consists of a nurse skilled in pain control, a social worker, and a chaplain, works with patients and family members on the physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. The team offers free consultations and is in high demand.

Article Abstract:

AtlantiCare Health Systems has adopted the "Baby Think It Over" program to prevent teen pregnancy. The program uses high-tech baby dolls to teach students about the realities of raising a child. The 6.5 pound robot babies are programmed to cry at random and have built-in devices to monitor student's responses. The program also include activities to show students the costs of raising a child.

The cost of keeping up

Article Abstract:

Health systems are scrambling to develop integrated electronic records. Clinical integration is considered the next generation of cost savings among industry executives. However, 90% of respondent health care systems in a study conducted by Hamilton KSA report little or no integration of patient records. Smaller health systems are more consistently integrated than larger systems.
