Jan Morris, clinical team leader women's psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), is working on the development of Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership's new psychiatric intensive care service for women, scheduled to open November 2006. Morris discusses the new developments in women's mental healthcare that are opening up new career opportunities for nurses.

Understanding the role of the glaucoma specialist nurse

Article Abstract:

The available literature on quality of life for patients with glaucoma is explored and the role of the glaucoma specialist nurse is considered. Glaucoma is a condition characterized by increased tension or pressure in the eye causing progressive structural or functional damage and it requires life-long treatment and ultimately leads to blindness.

Examining the effectiveness of the nurse consultant role

The role of nurse consultant aiming to strengthen leadership and helping to retain experienced and expert nurses in clinical practice is presented. Consultant role is provided as an example of how a redesigned nursing role can benefit patient care and service provision.
