Banning overseas nurses will come back to haunt the NHS

Article Abstract:

The UK government's new decision to curtail the recruitment of overseas nurses, on the grounds that the decision would allow newly qualified UK nurses to find jobs is a false positive. The government has failed to consider the fact that one generation of UK nurses are due to retire by 2010, thus creating another major nursing shortage.

The UK National Health Scheme is exploring various roles of nurses to improve care for service users, address staff shortages and increase job satisfaction. One such role in the mental health arena, the support time recovery worker's role is examined.

NHS vacancy figures cover true picture of nursing staff shortages

The National Health Service (NHS) nursing vacancies in England are low because the NHS trust deleted the posts due to the budget crisis by which the work load on the existing staff has increased and is effecting their psychological conditions.
