Cancer - the dual approach

Article Abstract:

Hammersmith Hospital, London, England and The Bristol Cancer Help Centre, England have combined a traditional and unorthodox approach to cancer treatment in response to the increasing popularity of alternative medicine. In 1989 Bristol's treatments were integrated with Hammersmith's practices. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been combined with counselling, meditation and relaxation techniques providing psychological support. However, the success of the project is difficult to measure due to subjectivity.

Article Abstract:

Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a debilitating bladder condition, distinguished by pelvic pain, frequent urination, nocturia and dyspareunia. Current orthodox treatments of cystectomy, urinary diversion or intravescial drug therapy are often not suitable for all patients. A support group was developed to look at optimal complementary therapies that are safe and financially viable, including aromatherapy and massage, and traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

Article Abstract:

Complementary therapies may have considerable use in people with bowel problems. Diarrhoea, constipation and irritable bowel syndrome are particularly suited to an alternative approach.
