Case 6-2005: A 58-year-old man with Esophageal cancer and nausea, vomiting, and intractable hiccups

Article Abstract:

A 58-year-old man was transferred to the Massachusetts General Hospital for management of newly diagnosed adenocarcinoma of the esophagus and on the second hospital day esophagogastroduodenoscopy with esophageal and gastric biopsies was performed. The specimen from the esophageal biopsy shows Barrett's mucosa and invasive tumor.

Case 15-2006: A 46-year-old woman with sudden onset of abdominal distention

Article Abstract:

A case study of a 46-year-old woman with rapidly increasing abdominal girth is presented. Anatomical diagnosis has indicated a Budd-Chiari syndrome, with centrilobular hepatocellular necrosis, sinusoidal dilatation, congestion and red-cell extravasation consistent with the presence of venous outflow obstruction.

Case 25-2005: A 40-year-old man with prolonged fever and weight loss

Article Abstract:

A case study of a 40-year old man with persistent fever, night sweats, anorexia, and weight loss is presented. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the liver on the day after admission showed a non-enhancing thrombus in the main portal vein that extended into both the right and left intrahepatic branches.
