Child health services research: challenges and opportunities

Article Abstract:

A coordinated focus is needed to determine how changes in the US health care system affect children. Because children grow and develop rapidly, they have unique medical needs. Many adult diseases also have their roots in childhood. Many children are underinsured and receive a mix of health care services from many different sources. Strategies to legitimize child health services research include increasing the number of researchers conducting this research, building laboratories to conduct the research and coordinating research funding.

Self-referral in Point-of-Service Health Plans

Article Abstract:

Most people covered by a point-of-service (POS) plan will not see a specialist outside the network even though they have that option. Those that do, however, tend to be more satisfied with specialist care. POS plans generally allow patients to go outside the network of doctors if the patient agrees to pay more out-of-pocket for that care.
