Time to discard the cookie cutter

Article Abstract:

An obstetrician discusses his suggestions for improving residency training in obstetrics and gynecology. Residency training in OB/GYN is pretty much the same in the 1990s as it was in the 1950s. OB/GYN doctors should realize that if they do not play a greater role in providing primary care for women, other specialties will take their place. Consequently, OB/GYN residency programs should be more flexible and provide residents with more than the "cookie cutter" approach. All OB/GYN residents should also be taught the skills to become a life-long learner.
