Individual saturated fatty acids and effects on whole blood aggregation in vitro

Article Abstract:

Blood platelets have an important role in the cause and development of coronary heart disease and provide essential materials necessary for blood coagulation. A new study investigates the effects on in vitro whole blood aggregation of four different types of saturated fat diets and compares them with a monounsaturated oleic acid diet. It is shown that diets enriched in saturated fatty acids (medium chain fatty acids, and myristic, lauric and palmitic acids) do not change aggregation speed in whole blood samples, compared to the monounsaturated oleic acid diet.
