Logos with mojo

Article Abstract:

A logo is an important aspect of an organization's identity. A good logo should be timeless, distinctive, memorable and generate a positive response to the company. It should also distill the message the company is attempting to project. The design of a logo starts with extensive research into the company in order to create a design that reflects the company's identity. Idea sources include font books and online font sites. Fonts that are rendered in pixels cannot be used. When designing logos in Adobe Illustrator all elements, including type, should be converted to outlines. The logo should work well in a variety of environments, including the Web.

Correcting the bias of clerkship timing on academic performance

Article Abstract:

Analysis of a medical student's performance on the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) pediatrics exam should be corrected to account for the time of year that the medical student took the test. Medical students do clerkships in different specialties and they can do this any time of the year. However, those who do the clerkship later in the academic year may score higher on the test simply because they have more experience and training. Researchers at one medical school adjusted the way they analyzed NBME grades so they could eliminate this time-of-year bias.
