Cost-effectiveness of HIV screening for incarcerated pregnant women

Article Abstract:

A decision analytic model was developed to project the clinical and economic outcomes of alternative HIV screening strategies for a high-risk population of incarcerated pregnant women. According to sterosurvey results, in the absence of any HIV screening program, 2.5 cases of pediatric HIV infection would be expected per 1000 pregnancies.

Combining PMTCT with active case finding for tuberculosis

Article Abstract:

Three hundred seventy HIV-infected pregnant women were screened for symptoms of active tuberculosis (TB) by lay counselors at the posttest counseling session. Results reveal that rates of TB in HIV-infected pregnant women are high and screening for TB during routine antenatal care should be implemented in high HIV prevalence settings.

Potential cost-effectiveness of maternal and infant antiretroviral interventions to prevent mother-to-child transmission during breast-feeding

Article Abstract:

The circumstances under which some of the antiretroviral interventions might be cost-effective in resource-limited settings are determined. Postpartum antiretroviral regimes, if proven efficacious, could decisively advance the ability to decrease maternal-to-child transmission (MTCT) in resource-poor settings.
