Effect of torcetrapib on the progression of coronary atherosclerosis

Article Abstract:

The functional effects associated with treatment with torcetrapib, a cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitor that increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels were studied. The CETP inhibitor was also found to be associated with increased blood pressure, although there was no significant decrease in the progression of coronary atherosclerosis.

Statins, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and regression of coronary atherosclerosis

Article Abstract:

The relationship between changes in the levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and the regression of coronary atherosclerosis is investigated. The results have shown that statin benefits are obtained from both reductions in atherogenic lipoprotein levels and increases in HDL-C.

Effects of torcetrapid in patients at high risk for coronary events

Article Abstract:

A randomized, double-blind trial was conducted to determine efficacy of torcetrapib, a potent cholesteryl ester transfer protein inhibitor to reduce major cardiovascular events. The trial was terminated prematurely as it increased risk of death and cardiac events in patients receiving torcetrapib.
