The European Union drafted Council Directive 92 57 EEC on Jun. 24, 1992 to reduce complaints on employee injuries and illnesses in the work environment. The directive consists of guidelines for the establishment of safety and health requirements in the workplace. Play it safe in long-term care facilities

Article Abstract:

Workers in long-term care facilities suffer from double the rate of injuries sustained by those in the private-sector. The two major causes of injury are awkward lifts and violent patients. Healthcare workers have to lift patients for bathing or moving which lead to back injuries as well as face the threat of assault by patients. Women are also more vulnerable to workplace violence compared to men with nursing and welfare work considered the most dangerous occupations.
