Fish consumption and coronary heart disease mortality. A systematic review of prospective cohort studies

Article Abstract:

An overall review of the evidence from prospective cohort studies relating fish consumption to coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality was based on individual recording of fish or n-3 very long-chained polyunsaturated fatty acids (VLCPUFA) consumption, and CHD death. Fish consumption is closely associated with other dietary variables as well as non-dietary lifestyle factors that may affect CHD mortality. The majority of studies gave statistical adjustments for known potential confounders, but residual confounding cannot be rule out. It is concluded that individuals at low risk of CHD and with health lifestyles are not further protected against CHD from eating fish.

Types of alcohol and drinking patter in 56,970 Danish men and women

Article Abstract:

Drinking patterns among individuals who prefer drinking wine, beer or spirits were examined in Denmark. 71% of men and women preferred wine or beer, and beer drinkers were most likely to be frequent drinkers. The relation between wine intake and coronary heart disease mortality may be subject to negative confounding, if binge drinking is less healthy than steady drinking, as beer drinkers appear to have the most sensible drinking pattern.

A cross-sectional study of dietary habits and urinary glucose excretion - a predictor of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

Article Abstract:

The link between consumption of certain foods and urinary glucose excretion, which is a determinant of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus was studied. The study suggests a protective effect of poultry, fruit and cereals against glycosuria.
