HIV infection, hepatitis C infection and HAART

Article Abstract:

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) have shown abnormalities in hepatic function and liver disease has become a cause of morbidity. Co infection with HCV and HIV has become a common clinical problem and optimal treatment of such patients has to be defined and treatment must be given as per the individualEs requirements.

Metabolic and skeletal complications of HIV infection: The price of success

Article Abstract:

The clinical characteristics of the metabolic and skeletal disturbances observed in HIV infection are reviewed and strategies for their management are discussed. A case study of a patient with HIV infection who responded well to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) but developed multiple complications potentially related to this therapy is presented.

Risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and lymphoproliferative precursor diseases in U.S. veterans with hepatitis C virus

Article Abstract:

A study among military veterans has revealed that Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) causes lymphoproliferation resulting in 20 to 30 percent increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In HCV infected patients, risk of Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, a low-grade lymphoma, increased 3 fold and there was also increase in risk for cryoglobulinemia.
