How you can comment on Medicare's review of RBRVS

Article Abstract:

Physicians can help revise Medicare's relative value scale (RVS) payment systems by sending comments to medical associations or to the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). The American Medical Assn, for example, has formed the AMA Specialty Society RVS Update Committee to collect comments from physicians and make recommendations to the HCFA. The HCFA requires that comments about RVS follow guidelines, such as including codes and discussing various aspects of clinical practices.

Clean air everywhere

Article Abstract:

Significant progress on the control of indoor smoking has been made in New York, NY, Maryland, and California, but indoor-smoking regulation is uneven throughout the rest of the country. Physicians can significantly impact local antismoking efforts. The battle over indoor-smoking rules in Wichita Falls, TX, is discussed. The Texas Medical Assn and the Wichita County Medical Society have been active in that struggle.

AMA still tweaking tobacco settlement

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn (AMA) wants to serve as the catalyst that coalesces the healthcare industry's stand on the tobacco industry's product liability deal with state attorneys general. AMA House of Delegates Speaker Richard F. Corlin says the proposed deal should be analyzed not against public health ideals but in practical terms to ensure that anti-tobacco groups get the strongest deal possible.
