Inducible change in the behavior of resistance arteries from circulating factor in preeclampsia: an effect specific to myometrial vessels from pregnant women

Article Abstract:

A substance in the blood of pregnant women with preeclampsia affected the relaxation of uterine blood vessels from pregnant women but not intestinal blood vessels from pregnant women or uterine blood vessels from non-pregnant women. Preeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy that partly involves abnormal blood vessel function.

Relaxant action of sildenafil citrate (Viagra) on human myometrium of pregnancy

Article Abstract:

The effect of cyclic guanosine monophosphate phosphodiesterase 5-specific inhibitor, sildenafil citrate, on the contractions of isolated human myometrium is examined. Myometrial relaxation Myometrial relaxation is activated by the direct application of sildenafil and occurs independently of cyclic guanosine monophosphate.

The preliminary characterization of a vasoactive circulating factor(s) in preeclampsia

Article Abstract:

Researchers have partly characterized a protein in the blood of pregnant women with preeclampsia, a complication of pregnancy. It has a molecular weight greater than 100 kd and seems to be a glycoprotein with a possible hydrophobic, lipophilic domain.
