Insulin resistance in HIV-infected men and women in the nutrition for healthy living cohort

Article Abstract:

Insulin resistance (IR) in an HIV-infected cohort was evaluated and the results were compared with those of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III. The Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index (QUICKI) was determined in 378 non-diabetic participants in the Nutrition for Healthy Living (NFHL) study and the association of the QUICKI was evaluated with demographic, socioeconomic, body composition, lipid, liver function, HIV-associated factors and injection drug use.

Body composition and dietary intake in relation to drug abuse in a cohort of HIV-positive persons

Article Abstract:

Women drug addicts who are IHV-positive may lose weight despite an adequate diet. This was the conclusion of a study of 39 current drug users, 103 past users, and 61 non-users, all of whom were HIV-positive.

Relation of lean body mass to health-related quality of life in persons with HIV

Article Abstract:

Lean body mass appears to improve an HIV patient's quality of life, according to a study of 619 patients. This effect was only seen in men and has implications for the treatment of HIV-related wasting.
