Interleukin 6 determinations in cervical fluid have diagnostic and prognostic value in preterm premature rupture of membranes

Article Abstract:

Elevated levels of interleukin-6 in cervical fluid may be a sign that a pregnant woman has a uterine infection and will go into labor prematurely. Interleukin-6 is an immune system protein that increases during infection.

The relationship between oligohydramnios and the onset of preterm labor in preterm premature rupture of membranes

Article Abstract:

Pregnant women whose membranes rupture prematurely are likely to deliver prematurely if they have less amniotic fluid than normal. This was the conclusion of a study of 129 pregnant women with premature rupture of membranes who had amniocentesis.

Clinical significance of intra-amniotic inflammation in patients with preterm labor and intact membranes

Article Abstract:

About one-third of pregnant women in premature labor will have either an infection or inflammation inside the uterus, according to a study of 206 women in premature labor. Inflammation is just as serious as an infection because it has the same adverse consequences.
