Language for leadership

Article Abstract:

The leadership of the American Medical Assn has created "AMA's Vision" in order to enhance the practice of medicine in the US. The core purpose of the AMA is promote the art and science of medicine with standard setting, the use of information and other objectives. Leadership, excellence, and integrity and ethical behavior are the values which the AMA expects in its vision and future.

Female genital mutilation

Article Abstract:

US physicians are increasingly likely to encounter female patients, primarily from Africa, the Muslim regions of Malaysia and Indonesia, and the Middle East, who have undergone genital mutilation. The American Medical Assn has adopted a report that calls on doctors to discourage the practice, in part by educating individuals about the health hazards it presents.

AMA gets OK for accreditation, guidelines projects

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates has officially approved the American Medical Accreditation Program (AMAP), set to begin in first quarter 1997, and a pilot test of a project to evaluate practice guidelines. AMA accreditation has received criticism from physicians groups that are concerned the program may exclude AMA members.
