Article Abstract:

The North Bradford Health Gain Organisation, a total fundholding pilot scheme covering 30,000 patients, has linked with Bradford Health Authority to set up 18 community hospital beds at Shipley Hospital, England. These are used for people who no longer require the acute medical care offered in a traditional hospital environment but are not yet ready to live independently at home. The beds are operated by a multidisciplinary team that includes two consultants in elderly care and a nurse facilitator.

Services for a new century

Article Abstract:

There is a need for improved continence services in the UK, with nurses playing an important role. Incontinent patients deserve better treatment than they receive. There should not be waiting lists for treatment. Treating patients at the right time gives them independence and enables them to remain mobile and healthy.
