Methods to Encourage the Use of Antenatal Corticosteroid Therapy for Fetal Maturation: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Article Abstract:

An extensive educational program may succeed in changing doctors' attitudes toward new treatment recommendations. Researchers randomly assigned 27 hospitals to receive NIH recommendations on the use of prenatal corticosteroids or a year-long educational program promoting the recommendations. Prenatal corticosteroids are used to promote fetal maturation and prevent premature birth. Use of prenatal corticosteroids increased 108% in the hospitals that participated in the year-long eduational program, compared to a 75% increase in those that just received a copy of the recommendations.

Plasma fibrinogen level and the risk of major cardiovascular diseases and nonvascular mortality: An individual participant meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

The association of fibrinogen levels with risk of important vascular and nonvascular consequences is evaluated with the help of a study based on individual participant information. Observations reveal that a moderately strong relationship is discovered between general plasma fibrinogen level and risks of coronary heart disease (CHD), and other vascular and nonvascular deaths among healthy middle-aged adults in diverse circumstances.

Detection of paternally inherited fetal point mutations for beta-thalassemia using size-fractionated cell-free DNA in maternal plasma

Article Abstract:

The prenatal analysis of IVSI-1, IVSI-6, IVSI-110, and codon 39, four common beta-thalassemia point mutations is examined. It was found that the technique of the size-fractionation of circulatory DNA in maternal plasma might be potentially useful for the noninvasive prenatal determination of fetal point mutations.
