Mutation of CEBPA in familial acute myeloid leukemia

Article Abstract:

Case of a family in which multiple members are affected by acute myeloid leukemia (AML) associated with an identical, 212delC mutation in CEBPA is presented. Three large studies of uniformly treated patients indicate that mutation of CEBPA such as 212delC is an independent favorable prognostic factor and appear to carry an even better prognosis than bZIP mutations.

Is our behavior written in our genes?

Article Abstract:

A new study demonstrated the role of a single gene in specifying sexual behavior in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. The findings prompt provocative thinking about the contribution of genetic factors to sexual orientation in humans, as well as about genes that might underlie a broader spectrum of human behaviors.
