NMC prepared for regulation reform

Article Abstract:

Sir Jonathan Asbridge, President of the UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council is resigning and expresses his views on the future of nurse regulation in the light of the Foster review. He believes that if the UK Department of Health's plans for overhauling the regulation of nurses is implemented, it could mean the end of self-regulation for the nursing profession and this would result in patients' lives being put at risk.

Social enterprises must stay in the NHS family

Article Abstract:

The Department of Health (DH) is planning to encourage social enterprise in primary care service delivery, but primary care nurses are apprehensive about the concept. Social enterprises are businesses set up for a social purpose delivering services that meet local need while achieving value for money and hence the nurses want to retain the NHS terms and conditions if they move to a social enterprise.

Will pill stocks solve teenage pregnancy?

Article Abstract:

The number of teenage pregnancies is rising day-by-day despite presence of lots of schemes to make teenagers more aware of the dangers of unprotected sex. The NICE draft guidance has suggested that stockpiles of the morning-after pill should be given to young women deemed to be at high risk of pregnancy and vulnerable teenagers should also be offered long-acting reversible contraception.
