Nurses seek $1 billion in suit against 65 anesthesiologists

Article Abstract:

The Minnesota Assn of Nurse Anesthetists have filed a lawsuit charging Allina Health Corp, five group practices, four hospitals and 65 doctors with wrongfully billing Medicare for services provided by nurse anesthetists. The suit, which seeks over $1 billion in damages and fines, charges that since 1991 the defendants have submitted over 100,000 improper claims. The hospitals and physicians deny any wrongdoing.

A reminder from behind bars: live by the ethics, doctor

Article Abstract:

A physician who discovered that a colleague was in prison for Medicare fraud decided to visit him. However, the convicted man asked his visitor not to come back, but to spread the word that medical ethics should be carefully heeded. Doctors may be imperfect human beings, and medical education will not necessarily impart honesty and conscience.
