Paclitaxel-eluting stents vs vascular brachytherapy for in-stent restenosis within bare-metal: The taxus vs ISR randomized trial

Article Abstract:

A trial was performed to evaluate the use of paclitaxel-eluting stents as compared to vascular brachytherapy (VBT) in patients with in-stent restenosis (ISR) of bare-metal stents. The results indicated that treating bare-metal in-stent with paclitaxel-eluting stents rather than with angioplasty followed by VBT reduces clinical and angiographic restenosis at 9 months and improves event-free survival.

Fenoldapam mesylate for the prevention of contrast-induced nephropathy: a randomized controlled trial

Article Abstract:

The drug fenoldopam mesylate does not prevent kidney disease from becoming worse in patients with kidney disease who must receive a contrast dye during a diagnostic procedure. This was the conclusion of a study of 315 patients at 28 US hospitals. Contrast dyes are used during a diagnostic procedure that involves X-rays to make the X-ray easier to read. Unfortunately, the dye can damage the kidneys.

Combined levothyroxine plus liothyronine compared with levothyroxine alone in primary hypothyroidism: a randomized controlled trial

Article Abstract:

The drug Cytomel may not benefit patients with hypothyroidism who are already taking Synthroid, according to a study of 46 patients. Both of these drugs are synthetic versions of natural thyroid hormone because patients with hypothyroidism do not make enough natural thyroid hormone. In this study, patients who took both drugs had no better outcomes than patients who took Synthroid only.
