Preimplantation diagnosis for genetic susceptibility

Article Abstract:

The regulator of assisted production in the United Kingdom of the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority decided to include susceptibilities to certain cancers in the conditions for which it would allow preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). In Britain, as in most of Europe, PGD refers to the removal of a single cell from an embryo generated in vitro for genetic testing to diagnose a recurrent, serious, heritable condition and thereby to avoid the implantation of affected embryo.

An antibody-deficiency syndrome due to mutations in the CD19 gene

Article Abstract:

Four patients from two unrelated families who had increased susceptibility to infection, hypogammaglobulinemia, and normal numbers of B cells are evaluated. Results indicate that mutation of the CD19 gene causes a type of hypogammaglobulinemia in which the response of mature B cells to antigenic stimulations is defective.

The B cell - old player, new position on the team

Article Abstract:

The benefits of therapies targeting the B cells in patients with autoimmune diseases are discussed. There is an increased need for study into the B cells repertoire to reduce the number of antibodies that may cause disease.
