Scientists study fat as endocrine organ

Article Abstract:

Scientists are trying to find out that fat cells or adipocytes are not only a storage vessel for fat, but rather dynamic entities that generate signals that spread throughout the body, thus playing an important role in overall metabolism. The molecular details of how fat cells and the molecules they produce influence the development of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and other metabolic disorders are being studied, in order to help in their clinical treatment.

Fetal environmental may have profound long-term consequences for health

Article Abstract:

The need to document family histories of premature births as well as pregnancy histories that include information on nutrition, smoking, and maternal diseases is suggested. During pregnancy, fetal and maternal cells travel across the placenta, creating a state called microchimerism in both the mother and her offspring, which can last for lifetime.
