Taking steps to discharge

Article Abstract:

Simon Bowles, cardiac inpatient discharge coordinator at Norfolk and Norwich Hospitals NHS Trust believes that a patient can be discharged quickly even after proper medical review and tests and a new one can accommodate his bed. Bowles team of senor cardiac nurses has developed an innovative hybrid role that has improved both the process of discharge planning and care of outgoing patients.

HIV nurse competencies to be clarified

Article Abstract:

National HIV Nurses Association revealed wide disparities in the roles and responsibilities of HIV nurses, which are to be resolved with a new national competency framework. Research conducted showed that performance of nurses and physician assistants is better than doctors, due to their high level of experience, focus on a single condition and participation in HIV care teams.

The new gatekeepers: nurses are taking over the GP's traditional role as gatekeepers of the NHS

Article Abstract:

Nurses routinely are the first contact for patients using the British National Health Service and most find their role as gatekeepers to be rewarding and empowering. Their ability to triage and give medical advice over the phone frees up doctors for same-day urgent care appointments.
