Therapy takes wheeze out of cat allergies

Article Abstract:

An experimental therapy is reported that reduced the allergic response to cat allergens in cells taken from humans who were allergic to cats as well as in two distinct sets of mice with cat allergies. The experiment used a fused protein that consists of the cat allergen protein Fel d 1 and human protein Fc(gamma), which is a part of human immunoglobulin and this treatment could provide relief to individuals who are allergic to cats in as little as three to five months.

Enzymes might cut celiac symptoms

Article Abstract:

Patients with celiac disease might have a treatment that would help them digest hidden gluten in foods or allow them to enjoy a less restrictive diet. The only existing treatment for patients with celiac disease is complete exclusion of foods containing gluten, though research suggests that oral formulations of enzymes that are able to break down gluten might be a useful adjunct treatment to dietary restriction or might allow a less restrictive diet for the patients.
