Three student manuals for obstetric and gynecologic outpatient care

Article Abstract:

Three pocket manuals written for new obstetric and gynecology medical providers may assist them in learning how to provide care for outpatients. Residency training is mostly concerned with hospital inpatients, while practicing OB-GYN doctors spend most of their time caring for patients in the office. The three pocket manuals were written for medical students, junior residents, and advanced practice nurses to use in the outpatient setting. The manuals stress effective communication between provider and patient as well as reproductive care for healthy women. Assessment of the manuals' effectiveness should be conducted.

The challenge of complementary and alternative medicine

Article Abstract:

Physicians may have a responsibility to become more informed about the safety and effectiveness of complementary and alternative forms of medicine. These alternative methods include all interventions not currently embraced by conventional medicine, and often focus on the holistic relationship between the patient's mind, body, and spirit. Controlled studies demonstrate that several of these remedies benefit particular conditions and are clinically efficient. Physicians familiar with these treatment possibilities can better inform their patients and direct their overall care.
