Transabdominal amnioinfusion in oligohydramnios at term before induction of labor with intact membranes: a randomized clinical trial

Article Abstract:

Injecting saline into the amniotic fluid sac in pregnancies with low amniotic fluid levels appears to be a safe and effective way to prevent complications at birth. Researchers randomly assigned 39 at-term women with low amniotic fluid levels to receive a saline injection (study group) and 40 at-term women with similarly low amniotic fluid levels to have their labor induced (control group). The control group had five times more cesarean deliveries and was 12.9 times more likely to have a newborn with an abnormal heart rate. There were no complications associated with the saline injections.

Improved perinatal survival of monoamniotic twins with intensive impatient monitoring

Article Abstract:

The study evaluates the impact of routine hospitalization for fetal monitoring on the perinatal survival and neonatal morbidity of monoamniotic twins. An improved neonatal survival and decreased perinatal morbidity was observed among women who were admitted electively for impatient fetal monitoring.

Preterm twins: What threshold of birth weight discordance heralds major adverse neonatal outcome?

Article Abstract:

The optimal threshold of birth weight discordance for prediction of adverse outcome in liveborn, nonmalformed preterm twins is studied. It is concluded that birth weight discordance is an important predictor of adverse neonatal outcome in liveborn, nonmalformed preterm twins.
