Treating HIV like any epidemic

Article Abstract:

Rep. Tom Coburn (R-OK) has introduced the HIV Prevention Act, a bill proposing measures that would effectively render HIV a conventionally managed public epidemic. The act would require states to implement notification systems for all partners at risk, and state Medicaid funding would become contingent upon compliance with notification and testing requirements mandated in the bill. The bill also urges criminalization of intentional HIV transmission and makes several provisions to ensure confidentiality in reporting and disclosure.

HHS wants to change how organs are allocated for transplant

Article Abstract:

The Dept. of Health and Human Services plans to restructure the current organ allocation system with one that places patients with urgent needs at the top of the waiting list. The current system directs organs to patients who live in the area where the organ became available. Due to this system, sicker patients have died while others not nearly as ill became recipients.
