When the president is impaired; experts try to balance national, individual concerns for safety, privacy

Article Abstract:

The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, PA, and a group of historians met in Nov 1997 to discuss the proper course of action when the president of the US is disabled by illness or injury. Under the terms of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, passed in 1967, the president may declare himself disabled or Congress may vote to permit the vice-president to take over. The group recommended appointment of a presidential physician who would report to a medical panel to help carry out the 25th Amendment.

Legislators we know - we need to know regulators

Article Abstract:

Physicians should focus lobbying efforts on regulators to ensure appropriate interpretation of laws which affect the healthcare industry. For example, meeting with representatives of the Federal Trade Commission can help clarify safe harbor rules and rule of reason analysis. Meeting with regulators on the state level can improve practice climate and interactions between physicians and patients.
