Rediscover junipers: these trusty evergreens offer an exciting range of shapes and colors

Article Abstract:

There are many beautiful types of juniper shrubs and trees that are not seen very often, despite the overuse of a few types. Colors cover many shades of blue and green. Different varieties of columnar, spreading and creeping junipers are described. Tips for caring for junipers are also included.

Camellias for cold climates: nine exciting hybrids extend this flowering shrub's range

Article Abstract:

Research on the camellia oleifera and other camellia species began in 1979 at the US National Arboretum, Washington, DC. Cross-breeding is still on-going, but positive results from hybrids have made fall-flowering plants commercially available. A list of nine plants is provided.

The use of evergreens in mixed borders require careful placement depending on the border's style and size. Evergreens, which shed their leaves all the time, come in several varieties such as Fatsia japonica, Pittosporum tobira and Prunus laurocerasus.
