Industry fundamentals get a bit more favorable

Article Abstract:

The paper and forest products industry experienced modest recovery in 1st qtr 1999 after the downturn in the summer and fall of the previous year. The factors responsible for the positive conditions in this sector were the robust domestic economy, indications that the Asian economy would soon pick up, improved global currency dynamics, and the perceived effects of consolidation in the industry. A sector-by-sector analysis and forecast for the rest of 1999 are discussed.
