Holding out against workplace harassment and bullying

Article Abstract:

Hostility in the work environment may inflict grave damages to the company that does not ensure that such behavior is not properly checked. Low employee morale and productivity, increased absenteeism and staff turnover and a tarnished corporate image are just some of the consequences of hostilities such as bullying, sexual and racial harassment, physical and verbal abuse and threats. Bullying involves constant criticism, personal maltreatment and degradation of the capabilities of collegues that will eventually lead to low self-esteem among employees. By compelling the victims to spend less time at work to avoid such abuses, the corporate organization itself may suffer a breakdown. Strategies on how to detect and deal with bullies are provided.

Skin health at British Aerospace

Article Abstract:

British Aerospace introduced a skin checking program in 1996 for its 6,000 employees doing aircraft manufacture and maintenance. This means the training of a nominated person from each work team to do weekly hand examinations of members of the team, and refer any problems to on-site occupational health professionals. According to anecdotal evidence from the company's occupational health nurses, referrals for serious skin problems have gone down dramatically since 1996.
