India: potential portfolio diversification

Article Abstract:

The implementation of a five-year plan to slowly transform a predominantly agricultural economy to an industrial one resulted in significant gains in the Indian stock market. Consequently, a number of potential investors are considering investment opportunities in the Asian subcontinent. However, takers should first be acquainted with the country's diverse demography and complex political and economic history before investment programs are fully contemplated.

Index vs. active investment

Article Abstract:

The choice of either active management or indexing in investment decisions depends on many determinants that an exclusive focus on only one of these methods is a dangerous practice. Active investment is generally more suited to such activities as small-cap equity, international equity and fixed-income category. Passive management or indexation is best for large-cap equity as it can handle substantial amounts of liquidity.
