Introducing global share plans - the Pearson experience

Article Abstract:

Global share plans are becoming increasingly popular among multinational companies that employ people across the globe. Standardization of employee pensions and benefits ensures the upliftment of the corporate identity, displays consistency of the company in the treatment of all employees, including those outside the home country, and encourages the recruitment of top executives and employees. Pearson Inc, a large educational and media resources and publishing company, has adopted this strategy and is used as an example and model.

Japan's changing compensation and benefits structure

Article Abstract:

The labor structure of Japan has been undergoing transformation with new wage systems, such as stock options and contributory pension structures, being initiated. Business institutions are also gearing towards merit-based pay schemes. The recent developments veer away from Japan's traditional compensation model which was largely based on seniority and the country's prevailing corporate philosophy. These changes are being hastened by a bearish economy coupled with an aging population and radical legislative changes.
