News of the world

Article Abstract:

The International Institute of Communications surveyed worldwide television news broadcasting on Nov 19, 1991 which consisted of 1,380 news stories. The results of the survey indicate that the news presented was primarily locally oriented on the day that included the release of hostages in Lebanon, the re-appointment of Edouard Shevardnadze as Soviet foreign minister among other international stories. The developing world was more intent on international news than the developed world, whose interest was mostly on local issues. The results of the survey are analyzed by topic and continent.

Obituary: Josephine Wright

Article Abstract:

Bank of America VP for international benefits Josephine Wright's death is a great loss to her colleagues, family and friends. Wright spent her early years in pre-World War II Shanghai, China. After the war, she and her family moved to Tokyo, Japan. Her no-nonsense approach to business may have led others to think of her as a cold person, but in reality she cared genuinely and understood other people's lives, since she led such an eventful life.
