Ownership, control and authority in emergent capitalism: changing supervisory relations in Hungarian industry

Article Abstract:

Research into the relationship between political and economic changes, in Hungary, and changes in Hungarian industries discovered the lack of money to pay for reorganisation was an important influence on the rate of change. Many companies did not make any important changes because they were mostly unaffected by liberalisation as their markets remained the same. Restructuring tended to occur when competition in the market place increased in combination with a change of owners. Many foreign businesses reorganized their operations. The research involved 385 workers in 13 industrial firms.
