The perfect storm or just a shower? Large corporations use best practices to jump-start new leaders

Article Abstract:

Several organizations are looking for ways to accelerate the development of new employees, especially new leaders, and are using aggressive, carefully planned on boarding programs that are designed to give them the skills and support they need to achieve and sustain high levels of performance from their workgroups. A program, which plans for the relationships and networks of the leaders, effective communication to their team and concrete development plans helps in giving the new managers the performance-oriented start they need.

Article Abstract:

The United States Postal Service (USPS) Transformation Plan was introduced in 2002, with revised plans for customer focus, the quality of the work environment, market consciousness and ambitious budget and service goals. The Center for Creative Leadership and USPS developed a five-day program for USPS top executives to provide the participants an experience that makes them rethink their approach in order to change leadership within the context of the USPS Transformation Plan.

The recognition of priorities and development of leaders is crucial in both the battlefield among the Marines and the corporate world. The five leadership traits of vision, organization, integrity, communication and execution (VOICE) serve as the focal point for leadership development and the standard for measuring leader and employee performance.
