Sanford C. Bernstein and Co has successfully managed $27 billion in assets for various investment plan sponsors at institutional and individual levels. The NY-based investment advisor has projected global assets as a value investment trend. The trend marked price as a vital factor in the success of an investment. However, such a price is measured against cash flow level in the market to separate value from merely low-priced stocks.

Gavin Dobson says that their regional specialists monitor political events and determine their effects on the stockmarket. According to Dobson, Blairlogie Capital Management considers liquidity criteria, trading hours, settlement and limits on foreign ownership when determining emerging markets. Dobson further says that among the promising emerging markets, the biggest relative overweightings are in Brazil and India.

Duration decision makes or breaks bond market profits

Pacific Investment Management Co. was able to rebound from the bond crisis in 1994 and eventually post year-to-date returns of 14.3% through 2nd qtr. 1995. Founder William Gross attributes the success to a philosophy of tagging duration as the primary decision in bond performance. He adds that the company's Total Return strategy has been a big draw for major clients.
