What really works: HR's role in building the 4+2 organization and an introduction to the case studies in the HR leadership forum

Article Abstract:

HR must lead in addressing the critical human issues that an organization faces today so as to consistently and predictably outperform competitors. More than 60,000 pages of information from 200 firms in multiple industries over ten year were analyzed to determine how HR can best contribute to enhancing firm performance. Four foundation practices and four secondary practices were found essential for producing extraordinary returns to shareholders. Performing in all the four foundation areas plus at least two of the secondary areas, also known as the 4+2 formula for sustained business success, can ensure the success of firms.

Human resource integration in the South African military: a view from the trenches

Article Abstract:

With reference to the South African National Defence Force, this article analyzes the military's racial and gender integration. The efforts of military in bringing together and managing diverse human resource groups are examined. The significance of this practice for human resource management in other organizations is discussed.
