Translucent structural beacon
Article Abstract:
The PUENTE Home Campus Learning Center in Los Angeles, CA, is made up of an exposed steel exoskeleton with tension framing and translucent walls and roof. The classrooms are located on the second floor and the space below serves as parking area. The overhanging part of the second floor and the whole roof system are suspended from tube steel masts by using tension rods and clevises with sizes that vary with the load they carry. Laterally unsupported elements located above the translucent panels make up the roof which acts as the compression chord of the truss.
