Now is the time to update salaries and job descriptions

Article Abstract:

If employees can prove compensation discrimination on the basis of sex under provisions of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the burden of proof shifts to the employer. Employers can use four different defenses to protect themselves, including the presence of seniority systems, merit systems, production measurement systems, and factors other than sex. Key points of law for compensation managers are reviewed. US Supreme Court and Federal Circuit Court decisions pertaining to 'legitimate business reasons' are summarized.

Managing the disability equation

Article Abstract:

Employers can better manage their disability programs by integrating their administrative and distribution components, properly determining actual disabilities occurring among employees and giving back-to-work incentives. Effective program management concentrates on prevention of disabilities because it results in lower cost. Furthermore, rehabilitative employment for disabled employees is better than long absence as the former also results in lower cost.
