The dangers of insurance application forms

Article Abstract:

Properly accomplished insurance application forms with accurate information, which must be verified by the proper people, are imperative to avoid the risk of unnecessary litigation. Two cases are presented to illustrate this. One involved a new branch office of a Finnish bank and the other, a tiny bar/package liquor store. Both cases essentially stemmed from questions relating to insurance application forms These issues included who completed the forms, who provided the information on the application and how accurate was this furnished information.

Insurance internships are needed - for faculty members

Article Abstract:

There is a general feeling in the business community that college professors for insurance education are 'out of touch' with the business world and have been unable to cope with the changes in the industry. Academic organizations have been criticized for not practicing their own teachings and some have been unable to provide students with the proper equipment and methods required by the latest technological developments. The establishment of a summer internship program has been proposed to help solve these problems.

The "hard" facts about the "soft" market

Article Abstract:

The soft market prevailing in the insurance industry since the 1980s can be explained by the simple laws of supply and demand. Prices of insurance remain to be low because supply or underwriting capacity far exceeds the demand. Back in the fifties, sixties and seventies, a hard market emerged when industry-wide surplus was significantly decreased. Hence, the insurance market will only harden when a decrease in underwriting capacity occurs in the 1990s.
