President's new policy shifts focus

Article Abstract:

In Aug 1991 the White House Domestic Policy Council released a report, 'Protecting America's Wetlands,' that clarified President Bush's promise of 'no net loss' of wetlands. The report points out that the most common causes of wetlands destruction, such as federal water projects, are exempt from existing laws. The report proposes a more streamlined procedure for issuing permits to develop wetlands under the Clean Water Act. A more restrictive definition of wetland is the most controversial proposal.

Camera keep justice system in focus

Article Abstract:

Cameras belong in courtrooms to show the public how its business is being conducted and to expose problems, with the idea that the unvarnished and uninterpreted truth lets people decide for themselves. Live cameras did not create the problems seen in the OJ Simpson trial; all high-publicity cases, regardless of camera presence, have that effect. Removing cameras now would only leave the Simpson case as the public's sole perception of how the US justice system functions.
